Bulldogs take care of Brandeis Wednesday in Waltham

­­­­SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- On the heels of a true team effort, the Bryant University men's tennis team picked up a pair of quality victories over #24 Brandeis, winning, 8-1 and 6-3, respectively, Wednesday afternoon in Waltham, Mass.

In the first match, the Bulldogs dominated one of the best Division II programs in the region from start to finish thanks to a strong showing in the doubles competition. The tandems of Max Vogt (Fair Oaks, Calif.) and Zachary Morris (Garden City, N.Y.), Dana Parziale (Pinehurst, N.C.) and Ernesto Arguello (Managua, Nicaragua), and Oliver Welsh (San Diego, Calif.) and John Templeman (Midland, Mich.) took care of business picking up three hard-earned points over the Judges.

In singles play, Parziale earned his league-leading 23rd victory of the season at the no. 1 spot, while Morris, Welsh, Vogt and freshman Christian Duarte (Dallas, Texas) followed suit en route to the 8-1 W.

The second match between the two schools brought more of the same from the Black and Gold as the visitors flex their muscles a bit with the solid 6-3 victory.

Sophomore Guillaume Sabourin (Dubai, United Arab Emirates) and freshman Alexander Ellwanger (Shrewsbury, Mass.) earned their fourth-straight win as a tandem and the lone doubles point for Bryant over Adam Brown and Ben Fine, 8-4.

Singles action brought more good fortune for the Bulldogs as Sabourin completed the 2-0 day with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Brown at the top spot, while junior Joshua Rubinstein (Trumbull, Conn.) took down Matthew Zuckerman in three-set saga, 6-1, 1-6, 6-3.

Templeman, Abdullah Abdulmohsen (Kuwait), and Joe Sterrey (Nuwnan, Ga.) were also victorious in the singles competition, propelling Bryant to the 6-3 match win and a perfect 2-0 afternoon in Waltham.

"Today was a great opportunity for all of our guys to compete at a high level," said Bryant head coach Ron Gendron.

The Bulldogs are playing arguably their best tennis of the season and it could not have come at a better time as the 2014 Northeast Conference Championships begins exactly one week from today.
