#1 Bulldogs breeze past #8 Terriers in NEC Quarterfinals

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Behind a dominating performance from start to finish, the #1 seeded Bryant University men's tennis team took care of #8 St. Francis Brooklyn, 4-0, Thursday morning in the Northeast Conference Championship Quarterfinals in West Windsor, N.J.

The top-seeded Bulldogs looked like a well-oiled machine from the get go, clinching the doubles point in convincing fashion before taking three singles sets without allowing a single points.

In doubles action, the freshmen tandem of Oliver Welsh (San Diego, Calif.) and John Templeman (Midland, Mich.) blanked James Chung and John Wisniewski, 8-0, at the no. 3 spot and sophomore Max Vogt (Fair Oaks, Calif.) and junior Zachary Morris (Garden City, N.Y.) took down Victor Blasco and Sacha Singh, 8-1, in the no. 1 position to clinch the point for Bryant.

Singles competition would bring on more dominance for the Bulldogs as Welsh, Vogt and freshman Christian Duarte (Dallas, Texas) put on an absolute show in front of the rest of the NEC. At no. 3 singles, Welsh proved why he is a strong candidate for Rookie of the Year, topping Andrea Proto, 6-0, 6-0, while Vogt took care of business in the five spot, defeating Chung, 6-0, 6-0. Duarte rounded out the nearly perfect morning with his seemingly effortless, 6-0, 6-0 win over Alex Bosch at no. 6 singles, sealing the 4-0 quarterfinal victory.

With the win Bryant advances to the NEC Semifinals for the second-straight season where they will meet #5 Sacred Heart on Friday. Match time is set for 9 a.m.
