Morris shines over Spring Break week, Bulldogs earn first W

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University men's tennis team picked up its first victory of the season with a 5-2 win over New Orleans on Friday to go 1-2 overall during Spring Break.

The Bulldogs opened their Spring Break week in Beaumont, Texas with a class vs. Lamar but the Cardinals proved to be too much as the hosts took the match, 6-1. The lone Bryant point came from senior Zachary Morris (Garden City, N.Y.) at the No. 2 singles spot with a three-set win over Michael Feucht, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.

From there the Black and Gold trekked to Louisiana for matches vs. the University of New Orleans and Louisiana-Lafayette on Friday. Against the Privateers, Bryant looked sharp securing the doubles point early on with wins from Matt Kuhar (Smithfield, R.I.) and Morris at the No. 1 spot and Oliver Welsh (San Diego, Calif.) and Luke Lorenz (Colorado Springs, Colo.) at the No. 3 position.

In singles action, Kuhar, Morris, Welsh, and Lorenz all picked up victories to secure the big win for the Bulldogs. Kuhar knocked off Timo Kranz, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 1 singles, with Welsh and Lorenz tallying straight-set victories as well.

In the second leg of Friday's double dip, Bryant's good fortune ran dry as a very talented Ragin' Cajun squad earned the 5-1 win. Morris, once again, was the star for Bryant with a dominant 6-4, 6-1 win over Damian Farinola at No. 2 singles. On the week, Morris was 3-0 at No. 2 singles and 1-1 at No. 1 doubles.

Looking ahead, the Bulldogs will host Quinnipiac at the Bryant Tennis Courts in the second leg of a doubleheader set to start at 1:30 p.m.
