Bryant tennis makes the mark for ITA Academic Awards

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Putting a bookend on a pair of magical seasons, the Bryant University men's and women's tennis teams were each recognized for their academic prowess by the ITA.

The Bryant women's tennis team, who ran the table at the Northeast Conference Championships in April to capture their first-ever NEC Title, made the mark as an ITA All-Academic Team. The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above. Additionally, six Bulldogs were honored as ITA Scholar Athletes including sophomores Marion Bouillin (San Diego, Calif.)Jacqueline Calamari (Huntington, N.Y.)and Ryan Brown (Austin, Texas), and freshmen Linnea Sjoberg (Stockholms län, Sweeden)Nina Luiggi (Nottingham, England), and Stefanie Arroyo (Gurabo, Puerto Rico).

On the men's side, the back-to-back NEC Champions had four of its own earn ITA Scholar Athlete recognition. Juniors Guillaume Sabourin (Dubai, United Arab Emirates) and Max Vogt (Fair Oaks, Calif.) and freshmen Luke Lorenz (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Matt Kuhar (Smithfield, R.I.) each achieved a grade point average of at least 3.50 for the 2014-15 academic year.

As the governing body of collegiate tennis, the ITA promotes both the athletic and academic achievements of varsity collegiate tennis players. The ITA, which is comprised of nearly 1,700 men's and women's varsity coaches and 20,000 student-athletes from over 1,200 institutions, has a comprehensive awards program for players and coaches to honor excellence in academics, leadership, sportsmanship and athletic performance. The ITA annually recognizes over 3,000 student-athletes on an individual and team basis from over 500 different varsity tennis programs.
