Bulldogs outdo Hawks, 6-1, on senior day

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Just about a week away from the Northeast Conference Championships, the Bryant University men's tennis team tacked another win on its record, defeating Hartford, 6-1, on senior day in Smithfield.

The Bulldogs (7-11, 1-0 NEC) earned the doubles point after winning in No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Seniors Phillip Kim (Marina, Calif.) and Max Vogt (Fair Oaks, Calif.) paired up for the 6-0 victory over Bryan Einstoss and Juan Molina in No. 2 doubles. Juniors Corey DiPaola (Lincoln, R.I.) and Joe Sterrey (Newnan, Ga.) took down the Hawks' (1-15) twosome of William Drumwright and Harrison Max, 6-1, in No. 3 doubles.

Singles action saw the Hawks' only point of the match, as Daniel Rombola defeated junior Oliver Welsh (San Diego, Calif.), 6-4, 6-3, in No. 1 singles. The Bulldogs went on to win out the rest of the singles matchups, including senior Richard Sipala's (Quogue, N.Y.) 7-6, 6-2 victory over Einstoss in No. 4 singles and senior Guillaume Sabourin's (Dubai, United Arab Emirates) 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Jairus Baker in No. 6 singles. The upperclassmen's dominant play on Wednesday helped the Black and Gold to the 6-1 trump over the Hawks.
