Bryant University Vice President for Athletics & Recreation Bill Smith announced Jorge Isaias Ortiz-Garcia '20 as the next head coach of the Bryant Men's Tennis program on Thursday (August 3).

Ortiz-Garcia returns to his alma mater with a championship pedigree, both as a player and as a rising star in the coaching industry.

"Coach Gendron saw the tenacity and leadership in Jorge when he recruited him and I couldn't be more thrilled to bring him home to lead our program," said Smith. "Jorge has Bryant Tennis in his DNA. It was a pleasure to watch him guide our program to three NCAA Division I Tournaments as a player and I am excited to watch him as he leads our program into the next chapter as the head coach of Bryant University Men's Tennis."

Ortiz-Garcia was a standout on a men's tennis program that enjoyed one of the most dominant stretches in Bryant Athletics history. The Bulldogs won six-straight titles from 2014-2019, with Ortiz-Garcia serving as a focal point of the final three. He also spent one season as an assistant coach.

In his career, Ortiz-Garcia posted the 12th-most singles victories in program history with 39. Ortiz-Garcia was an All-NEC Second Team selection in singles as a junior, going 7-0 against league opponents in 2018 and 2019. In doubles, he teamed with his older brother to earn All-NEC honors while also competing in the 2018 Davis Cup.

"Being named the head men's tennis coach at Bryant is an honor," Ortiz-Garcia said. "I want to thank VP Athletics & Recreation Bill Smith, Senior Womens Administrator Nicole Lambert, and the rest of the search committee for trusting me to lead this program. After spending more than five years at Bryant as a student-athlete and an assistant coach, I am confident I can lead these tremendous student-athletes to success on and off the court. My goal is to bring a healthy culture where everyone is working towards a common goal. I am thrilled to come back to Bryant University. Vamos Perros!"

In addition to his outstanding achievements as a Bulldog, Ortiz-Garcia has worked at the United States Professional Tennis Association in Orlando, at the Edgartown Yacht Club on Martha's Vineyard and at the Vineyard Family Tennis center. He is a USPTA certified tennis professional coach and holds a Leadership and Innovation degree from Bryant University.
