Bryant Softball Sweeps Assumption 9-1, 8-0
SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Bryant softball team kicked off its conference schedule with two solid victories, 9-1 and 8-0 over Assumption College Thursday afternoon at a blustery Bryant Softball Complex.
In the first game, CF Amanda Wilbur (Lakeville, Mass.) had three hits and scored three times while 3B Jess Valentini (Cliffside Park, NJ), SS Ali Chouinard (Swansea, Mass.) and C Ashley Coon (Fairless Hills, PA) each added two hits.
Leading 3-1 in the fifth, the Bulldogs exploded with five runs as Wilbur, Chouinard, DP Lauren McNiff (Westford, Mass.), Coon, and RF Kim Leonard (Milford, Mass.) each had a RBI.
Starting pitcher Nikki Ingalls (Westford, Mass.) went the distance allowing one run on seven hits while striking out four, improving her record to 3-0 this season.
In the second game, Chouinard belted her second homer of the season, a towering drive to left-center field in the second inning to give her team the early 1-0 lead.
That was more than enough for starter Janine Enos (Wareham, Mass.) who struck out seven, while allowing just one hit in the five-inning complete game. Enos (1-2) fooled the Greyhounds all game with her excellent change-up.
The Bulldogs scored five in the third taking advantage of three walks and a hit batsman. Chouinard and McNiff capped off the rally with a two-run single and a two-run double respectively.
Chouinard finished with six RBIs and four hits in the doubleheader.
Bryant (4-3, 2-0 NE-10) will return to action this weekend with games at Pace on Saturday and C.W. Post on Sunday (noon).
