Softball Sweeps Doubleheader at Pace, Ready for C.W. Post Sunday

Softball Takes Pair of Games From Pace, Moves to 4-0 in Conference

Jessica Valentini (Cliffside Park, NJ) and Amanda Wilbur (Lakeville, Mass.) powered the Bulldog offense as the Bulldogs swept a doubleheader with NE-10 rival Pace University. The Bulldogs took the first game 5-1 behind the pitching of Junior Janine Enos (Wareham, Mass.) and Valentini who went 4 for 4 with 2 doubles and an RBI. In the second game, transfer Anne Dobmeier (Buffalo, NY) captured her first victory as a Bulldog in a 4-3 win.

The senior Wilbur was 2 for 4 in game 1 with a home run and a pair of RBIs and Valentini went a perfect 4-4 to propel the Bulldogs. Enos (2-2) hurled a complete game for her second straight win.

Dobmeier (1-1), who struggled in her first twoappearances for the Bulldogs was solid in five innings, holding Pace to one earned run in 5 innings. Wilbur and fellow seniors Amanda Gagne (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Briana Durborow (Ringoes, NJ) all had two hits as the Bulldogs scratched out a 4-3 win.

All Bryant's runs were scored in the tophalf of the sixth in a four-run outburst sparked by Valentini and Wilbur and a three run home run to center by pinch hitter Kate Thomas (Bedford, NH).

Valentini, a junior, ran her season average up to .407 with a 5 for 9 afternoon.

 The wins brought the team to 4-0 in Northeast-10 conference action. The Bulldogs are looking to defend their 2007 regular season and conference tournament championships.

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Sunday with a doubleheader at C.W. Post for a non-conference matchup at 12 noon.
