Bulldogs Drop Season Opener 7-0 to West Chester University in Lakeland, Florida

SOFTBALL DROPS SEASON OPENER TO WEST CHESTER BY A SCORE OF 7-0

March 15, 2007

The Bulldogs dropped the first game of the Florida Southern Invitational to West Chester University by a score of 7-0.

The Rams started the scoring early, plating two runs apiece in the first and second innings off Bryant starter Anne Dobmeier (Buffalo, NY). Dobmeier (0-1), a transfer from St. Andrew's Presbyterian in North Carolina, was greeted rudely in her Bryant debut. She ended up allowing 7 hits in five innings while giving up seven runs (only four earned). Janine Enos (Wareham, Mass.) pitched two perfect innings in relief of Dobmeier with two strikeouts.

The Bulldogs were unable to figure out West Chester starter Shannon Padula (6-1). The sophomore  righthander held the Bulldogs to 5 hits in a complete game shutout.

The Rams were led offensively by Katey Kreider who knocked two hits and one RBI and Megan Harbaugh who knocked in two runs.

Sophomore Stephanie Mirando (North Haven, CT) was the only Bryant starter to have success against Padula, finishing two of three with a pair of singles.

Bryant mounted their most serious offensive threat in the bottom of the sixth when singles by Amanda Gagne (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Dobmeier put runners on first and third with two outs. But Padula was able to get Mirando out for the first and only time of the game to escape further trouble.

The Bulldogs will return to action with a pair of games Friday. The team will play #12 and Tournament host Florida Southern at 3pm and the University of Tampa at 5pm.
