BRYANT OPENS 2008 CONFERENCE SCHEDULE WITH PAIR OF WINS AT HOME THURSDAY NIGHT

Game 1 / Game 2

SMITHFIELD, RI -- The Bryant University softball team opened up 2008 Northeast-10 Conference play Thursday, sweeping Franklin Pierce in an afternoon doubleheader, 8-0 and 3-2. Senior starter Janine Enos (Wareham, Mass.) picked up a pair of victories.

While the Bulldogs (4-4, 2-0 NE-10) shutout the Ravens, (who played the home team Thursday due to the game being moved to Bryant due to field conditions) in Game One action, 8-0, it was much closer in the nightcap, which was called after five innings due to darkness.

Jennifer Serrano (Stoneham, Mass.) was among the offensive stars for the Bulldogs. The senior second baseman knocked in five runs on the afternoon including a deep home run in the first inning of game two.

The Bulldogs started quickly in game two, plating three runs off Raven starter Kayla Johnson. But the Bulldogs were unable to push accross another run until the top of the sixth before the game was called, but the tally reverts back to the last full inning for a final score of 3-2.

Enos allowed 2 runs (both earned) in 11 innings of work in the doubleheader.

Both contests go in the books as complete games. The Bulldogs will return to action this Saturday with a 12 noon doubleheader with the Pace University Setters.
