#16 Pioneers Take Two From Bulldogs Sunday Afternoon

March 30, 2008      Game 1 Box / Game 2 Box

Smithfield, RI - In a rematch of last year's NCAA Northeast Regional final, the C.W. Post Pioneers took a pair of games from Bulldogs behind the pitching and hitting of senior Samantha Yodowitz.

In game one, Yodowitz outdueled Janine Enos (Wareham, Mass.) in an epic pitching matchup. The game's only run came in the fourth inning when Megan Correia singled in Melissa Hippo. Enos (4-3) took the hard luck loss, allowing six hits in seven full innings of work. The senior also struck out seven Pioneers.

Yodowitz, however was too much for the Bulldogs. She went the seven strong innings, allowing just 3 hits while striking out four. The Bulldogs' most serious threat came in the bottom of the seventh when Bryant put runners on first and third with two outs before Stephanie Mirando (North Haven, CT) was thrown out attempting to steal second base to end the game.

In game two, the Pioneers touched up Bryant starter Samantha Houseal (Mount Joy, PA) for five runs in seven innings. The freshman (2-3) held the Pioneers for most of the game but allowed two big innings, the C.W. Post fourth and seventh innings. C.W. Post starter Christina Berardi held the Bulldogs to one run on four hits in the complete game victory

In the game, Alison Chouinard (Swansea, Mass.) collected a pair of hits and Mirando drove in the only run of the game.

The loss snaps a six-game winning streak for the Bulldogs, who will return to action this Tuesday with a doubleheader with NE-10 rival Southern Connecticut. First pitch is scheduled for 3pm at the Softball Complex.
