Andover, Mass.- Though Senior Janine Enos' (Wareham, Mass.) bid for her first career perfect game was broken up in the sixth inning, the senior finished Game One of a doubleheader with Merrimack with a complete game shutout and 12 strikeouts in a 4-0 Bulldog victory. The Bulldogs then held on for a wild 5-4, eight inning win in game two.

Fellow senior Jessica Valentini (Cliffside Park, NJ) got the scoring started for the Bulldogs in game one with a second inning home run. Valentini finished the game with two hits and two runs.

Freshman Alex Pearson (North Dighton, Mass.) broke the game open in the fourth inning with a 2-RBI double that bounced off the top of the wall, missing her first career homer by inches. Ashley Coon (Levittown, PA) drove in the Bulldogs other run in the fourth, and finished 2 of 3 with a run and an RBI.

But the story of the game was Enos, whose 12 strikeouts were a season high. Enos faced the minimum number of batters before Kara Melillo lined a single into left field. But Enos finished off the game without allowing a run.

In game two, the Bulldogs  blew a two-run lead in the seventh inning but rallied for an extra-inning win. Samantha Houseal (Mount Joy, PA) got the win for the Bulldogs, going seven innings and allowing four runs. Enos returned to the mound to collect her first save of the season.

In the seventh, Anne Dobmeier (Buffalo, NY) beat out a potential double play ball and the throw from the second baseman skipped passed Atlee Cahill to allow Ali Chouinard (Swansea, Mass.) with the go-ahead run.

The Bulldogs had jumped out to a 4-1 lead, but the Warriors battled back to tie the game at four. After the Bulldogs reclaimed the lead, Enos entered the game, but Merrimack put runners on second and third with two outs before Enos struck out Jill Richards to end the game and run the Bulldogs' conference record to 14-0.

The Bulldogs return to action this Thursday with a doubleheader with UMass-Lowell at the Softball Complex. UMass-Lowell is currently third in the conference with a 9-3 NE-10 record (15-11 overall). First pitch is scheduled for 3pm.
