Softball Sweeps St. Michael's Sunday as Bulldogs Honor Serrano, Enos, and Valentini on Senior Day

Valentini, Enos, and Serrano Lead Bulldogs Past Purple Knights Sunday on Senior Day

April 27, 2008              Game 1 Box / Game 2 Box

Smithfield, RI - On the day they were honored, Jennifer Serrano (Stoneham, Mass.), Jessica Valentini (Cliffside Park, NJ) and Janine Enos (Wareham, Mass.) showed once again why the senior class of 2008 will be remembered as one of the finest in Bryant history.

The seniors combined for five hits, six runs, three RBI and a pitching win in a two-game sweep of St. Michael's College. Enos went the distance in the circle, allowing just two runs in seven innings to take home her 15th win of the season and 50th of her career. Enos did not allow a hit until the sixth, when the Purple Knights reached her for two runs on four hits.

But Enos rebounded to shut the Knights out in the seventh and take home her historic win.

The Bulldogs took game one 4-2 and the second game 10-3.

The offense was led by shortstop Ali Chouinard (Swansea, Mass.), who was inserted in the leadoff spot of the lineup for the game. Among the three hits was a fifth inning home run to left field, her second of the season.

Valentini would collect two hits and an RBI in the game as well. Valentini, Chouinard, Anne Dobmeier (Buffalo, NY), and Ashley Coon (Levittown, PA) would turn in multiple-hit games off Knights' starter Megan O'Connor.

The Bulldog bats would stay hot in game two. Bryant pounced on starter Katie Wry for three runs in the first inning before Wry was moved to right field and O'Connor returned to pitch. A 2-RBI triple by Valentini brought home the first two runs before Stephanie Mirando (North Haven, CT) chased Wry from the game with a double down the right field line, but O'Connor put out the fire, limiting the Bulldogs to three runs.

However, the 'Dogs broke through against O'Connor in the second. Dobmeier drove in Serrano with a single and Kate Thomas (Bedford, NH) singled in Valentini and Dobmeier to put the Bulldogs up 6-1.

The Knights fought back for two against Bulldogs starter Samantha Houseal (Mount Joy, PA) in the top of the third, but Bryant put the game away in the bottom of the sixth behind a bases clearing single by Mirando that brought in three runs. Earlier in the inning, Kim Breton (Leominster, Mass.) who had doubled, stole home.

The win improves the Bulldogs' record to 23-10-1 and 21-4-1 in the Northeast-10. Bryant will look to add a win to that total tomorrow when St. Anselm returns to the Bulldog Softball Complex to play the end of the team's 7-7, 10-inning tie from Tuesday. The game will resume in the top of the 11th inning. Game time is set for 5pm.

After that game, the Bulldogs will conclude the regular season at NE-10 rival Bentley Tuesday afternoon at 3pm.
