SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Due to weather conditions, the Bryant vs. Harvard softball doubleheader scheduled for today has been cancelled. The Bulldogs will return to action on Thursday when they host intrastate rival Brown, before opening Northeast Conference action on Saturday with a doubleheader against Mount St. Mary’s at the Bryant Softball Complex.

The Bulldogs are coming off a 2-3 week where they earned wins over Holy Cross and Maine. Sophomore Laura Bowen (Hudson, Mass.) led the way for the Bulldogs, hitting .500 (6-12) for the week. The second baseman had two doubles, a leadoff homerun and three RBIs. She also stole two bases. The Massachusetts native leads the team in batting average (.327), at bats (49), runs (12), hits (16), doubles (6), walks (7), stolen bases (3) and total bases (25).

The Brown Bears are 10-6 overall and coming off an extra inning victory over fellow NEC member, Fairleigh Dickinson. Sophomore Kate Strobel leads the way for the Bears hitting .404. The Denver native brings versatility and power to the plate with a team-high six homeruns and eight stolen bases.

Last season, the Bulldogs spilt doubleheader action with the Bears as they defeated the Ivy League foe, 11-3, in six innings and then fell 13-7 in the second game.
