SOFTBALL’S LISCHINSKY NAMED AKADEMA NORTHEAST CONFERENCE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Leading the Bulldogs to three consecutive wins this past week, Bryant University freshman Brittany Lischinsky (Mahopac, N.Y.) has earned the first-ever Northeast Conference weekly accolade for the Bryant softball program, as she was named the Akadema Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week today by conference officials.

The Bryant (7-29, 4-10 NEC) first baseman had a breakout week for the Bulldogs, going an impressive 7-for-13 at the plate. Lischinsky hit an outstanding .538 this week, with four RBIs, two doubles and her first-career homerun.

The New York native was 2-for-4 with two runs and her first-career homerun in game one at Saint Francis (Pa.) as the Bulldogs shutout the Red Flash 6-0. The cleanup hitter followed up with a 3-for-4 performance in game two of the doubleheader, knocking in three RBIs and scoring one run. The Black and Gold came from behind in the nightcap with three runs in the top of the seventh to win 8-5 over the Flash.

Lischinsky, in her first year on the Bryant squad, is now ranked second on the team in batting average, hitting .283 overall in 20 games played. She is also ranked fourth on the team in fielding percentage with a mark of 97.3 percent.

The Bulldogs have now won three consecutive games and look for a program best four Division I victories in-a-row on Tuesday when they face intrastate rival Providence College at 4 p.m.
