BRYANT BASEBALL, SOFTBALL NAMED 2010 TEAM SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD WINNERS BY NORTHEAST CONFERENCE

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- The Northeast Conference (NEC) announced its spring Team Sportsmanship Award winners, with the Bryant University baseball and softball teams each taking home the accolade in their respective sport.

Monmouth was honored in men's golf, women's golf, women's lacrosse and women's tennis, while Quinnipiac was the women's outdoor track and field recipient. Robert Morris claimed women's golf honors and Saint Francis (PA) earned men's tennis plaudits.

Bryant, Monmouth and Saint Francis (PA) each finished the 2009-10 academic year with a league-high four sportsmanship awards. Quinnipiac was recognized three times and Sacred Heart twice. There were ten different NEC institutions or associate members with at least one team honored for their commitment to sportsmanship.

Instituted by league Presidents in 2008, the awards are designed to acknowledge the team in each conference sport that, in the opinion of its peers, most closely demonstrates good sportsmanship based on the NEC Principles of Sportsmanship and Standards of Conduct. Voting is conducted at the conclusion of each season by each team captain and head coach, who rank teams within the conference based on a predetermined set of criteria.
