BULLDOGS DROP 10-2 DECISION TO NO. 21 TEXAS TECH SATURDAY

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – After putting up two runs in the top of the first inning, the Bryant University softball team could not hang on to the lead, as the Bulldogs dropped their second game of the day to No. 21 Texas Tech, 10-2, in five innings of play.

Laura Bowen (Hudson, Mass.) was the only Bulldog able to register a hit, as the Massachusetts native went 1-for-2 in the outing with one run. Sophomore Brittany Hart(North Andover, Mass.) took the loss, pitching 4.0 innings and Texas Tech's Kelsey Dennis went five innings surrendering just one earned run.

Lauren Guy (La Habra, Calif.) got things started for the Bulldogs in her lead-off spot, reaching first on a walk. Bowen would single to left field to advance Guy to second before Amy Weinberg's (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) sacrifice bunt would set up Taylor Bell (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.), whose infielder's choice hit scored the first run of the outing. Bowen would add another run on a pass ball to give the visiting side a 2-0 edge.

The Red Raiders would answer in the bottom half of the frame with a score of their own, before rattling off two, two, and five  runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings, respectively to earn the five-inning win.
