Bulldogs battle, but fall short twice

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Despite holding the opposition to a total of four runs on the day, the Bryant University softball team (2-9) dropped both outings in Tuesday's doubleheader at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla. Bryant dropped a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to La Salle University before getting edged by Temple, 3-2.

Sophomore Brittany Hart (North Andover, Mass.) took the mound for Bryant in the opener, allowing just one run in the top of the fourth. Despite the strong pitching performance, the Bulldogs lineup could not deliver, as the team would suffer their second shutout of the season.

In the late game, Bryant surrendered three runs off of five hits, as senior co-captain Samantha Houseal (Mount Joy, Pa.) took the mound for the Bulldogs in the 3-2 decision.

Offensively, Laura Bowen paced the Bulldogs with a RBI double while Kendall Corder (Carmichael, Calif.) added a RBI single of her own after going 1-2 at the plate. Kate Murray (Fitchburg, Mass.) had a strong day for the Bulldogs, finishing the outing with two hits in three plate appearances.

The Bulldogs are back in action Thursday, March 9 for another doubleheader as the team will face Holy Cross (3:00 p.m.) and Loyola University of Chicago (5:00 p.m.).
