BRYANT DROPS CONTESTS TO NORTHERN COLO., NEW MEXICO IN LOBO CLASSIC OPENING DAY

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Bryant University softball team dropped its first two contests of the 2012 season, as the Bulldogs fell to Northern Colorado and host New Mexico in the opening day of the Lobo Classic.

The Bulldogs (0-2) mustered just three runs on the day, as both the Bears (7-1) and the Lobos (7-0) managed to plate 15 runs in each game. Bryant fell to Northern Colorado by a 15-2 margin after falling behind early, while the Lobos used a pair of seven-run innings to cruise to a 15-1 victory in the nightcap.

In the opening game against Northern Colorado, Bryant fell behind early after the Bears capitalized on a Bulldog miscue to plate four unearned runs. Sophomore outfielder Lauren Guy (La Habra, Calif.) accounted for all of the Bulldogs' offensive firepower by driving in a pair of runs on a double to right in the bottom of the second, but those would be the only two runs Bryant would score against the Bears.

In the nightcap, sophomore Aubrey Mable (Aurora, Colo.) infused some life into the dormant Bryant bats when she ripped a two-out homer to center to hand the visitors an early 1-0 lead, but the Lobos – who are receiving votes in the most recent NFCA Coaches' Poll – drew even in the bottom half of the frame. New Mexico would eventually pull away with a pair of seven-run innings in the second and fourth to take home the mercy rule victory.

Junior hurler Jennifer Jacob (Deer Park, N.Y.) totaled nine innings of action in the circle as Bryant's only pitcher on Friday. The New Yorker fanned six batters while walking 11 batters in her first day of action in the 2012 season.

Along with Guy and Mable, classmate Amy Weinberg (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) finished the day with two hits, as both came in the nightcap against the Lobos. Weinberg and Guy each nabbed a stolen base on Friday, as well.

Bryant returns to action in the Lobo Classic on Saturday with two games against Purdue (12 p.m. ET) and Central Arkansas (4 p.m. ET).
