HART SHUTS OUT TOREROS TO LEAD BRYANT TO 1-0 VICTORY SUNDAY

SMITHFIELD, R.I – A one-run single in the top of the first from sophomore Madeline Velasquez (Los Angeles, Calif.) was all that senior Brittany Hart (North Andover, Mass.) needed as the senior threw seven scoreless innings to lead the Bryant University softball team to a 1-0 victory over the University of San Diego Sunday afternoon.

Despite being outhit, 8-3, the Bulldogs (2-3) began their Spring Break on a high note behind a great performance from Hart on the mound. The senior allowed eight hits, striking out just one, but did not allow a single Torero (9-12) batter to cross home plate.

Velasquez notched the only RBI on the day, driving in junior Lauren Guy (La Habra, Calif.) who recorded the lone Bryant double, while sophomore Jessica Benacquista (Belleville, N.J.) was responsible for the only other Bulldog hit in a true pitcher's duel Sunday in Southern California.

The Bulldogs will have Monday to prepare for their final seven games in just five days of the road trip, beginning with Fairfield on Tuesday at 2 p.m. EST.
