Bulldogs drop tough-one to Red Raiders, 7-1

BRYANT FALLS TO TEXAS TECH. 7-1, WEDNESDAY IN SAN DIEGO

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Despite hanging tough for three and a half innings against a very talented Red Raider squad, the Bryant University softball team fell to Texas Tech, 7-1, Wednesday afternoon in San Diego.

Junior catcher Kendall Corder (Carmichael, Calif.) picked up one of the four Bryant (2-5) hits on the day, scoring the only run for the Bulldogs off a Madeline Velasquez (Los Angeles, Calif.) sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh inning.

Junior shortstop Aubrey Mable (Aurora, Colo.) and freshman second baseman Liana Ogata (Tustin, Calif.) posted the only other Bryant hits as Texas Tech (20-8) lefthander Brittany Tally threw seven solid innings for the Red Raiders, allowing just one run in her sixth win of the season.

After Texas Tech pushed two across home plate in the bottom of the first, the Bulldogs held the Red Raiders scoreless in the second and third, however the Big 12 foe put up four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, highlighted by a Katelyn Williams two-run homer, to put the game out of reach. Williams finished the day 2-for-4 with four RBIs and a run scored.

The Bulldogs open play at the San Diego Classic II Thursday evening against tournament-host San Diego State University. Opening pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. EST.
