SOFTBALL VISITS THE MOUNT SATURDAY AND MONMOUTH SUNDAY FOR PAIR OF NEC DOUBLEHEADERS

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Coming off its eight-game stint in sunny San Diego, Calif., the Bryant University softball team will open Northeast Conference play with a pair of doubleheaders, first visiting Mount St. Mary's on Saturday (1/3 p.m.), before a showdown with Monmouth on Sunday (12/2 p.m.).

The Bulldogs enter weekend action with a 4-8 overall record, coming off a 3-5 showing in San Diego. Bryant picked up a trio of quality wins during its Spring Break road trip, defeating San Diego, UNLV, and Marist, while displaying strong showings against Fairfield and Texas-Arlington as well. Senior Brittany Hart (North Andover, Mass.) led the Black and Gold earning the victory in all three Bulldogs wins over the break. Junior Kendall Corder (Carmichael, Calif.) paced Bryant at the dish collecting six hits and four RBIs in just seven games.

Corder and classmate Lauren Guy (La Habra, Calif.) sit atop the Bryant hitting leaders, both posting a .333 average. Guy and junior shortstop Aubrey Mable (Aurora, Colo.) have both racked up 10 hits on the season, the only Bulldogs to eclipse the double-digit mark thus far. Mable has also posted four doubles, one home run and seven RBI, while slugging over .500 on the year. Sophomore outfielder Madeline Velasquez (Los Angeles, Calif.) leads Bryant with eight RBI on just eight hits. On the mound, Hart has accounted for all four Bryant wins, pitching 40 innings while boasting a team-best 3.50 era.

The Bulldogs will first travel to Emmitsburg, Md., for a double dip with Mount St. Mary's on Saturday (1 and 3 p.m.). The Mountaineers enter the weekend with a 5-12 overall mark, but have won their last four in convincing fashion, outscoring their opposition, 44-4. Junior third baseman Cat Clifford leads The Mount with a .327 average, boasting a team-best five home runs and 11 RBI. Freshman infielder Rachel Gavigan sits just below Clifford with a .289 clip to go along with her four doubles and 11 RBI. Junior Nicole Pagano handles the majority of the pitching duties, logging 54.2 innings in 10 starts (4-6), thus far, while posting a 3.97 era.

On Sunday, Bryant will visit a 9-6 Monmouth team in each school's second taste of NEC action. After opening the year 8-3 the Hawks have dropped three of their last four as they look to get back on track over the weekend. Sophomore infielder Kayleena Flores paces Monmouth with a .395 average with one homer and six RBI. Senior Kate Kuzma leads the power categories posting five home runs (on seven total hits) and 14 RBI. The Hawks real strength is on the mount as all three hurlers have logged at least 28 innings with a combined 2.89 era.

The Bulldogs will look to take the first step towards their goal of an NEC Tournament berth this weekend.
