SOFTBALL LOOKS TO BOUNCE-BACK VS. BOSTON UNIVERSITY TUESDAY IN SMITHFIELD (4 P.M.)

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University softball team will welcome Boston University to Smithfield on Tuesday (4 p.m.) for the first of two games against the Terriers this season.

The Bulldogs (14-18, 5-9 Northeast Conference) enter Tuesday's action coming off a tough weekend on the road in which they dropped three of their four games. On Saturday, Bryant ran into a very tough LIU Brooklyn team, falling 12-4 in Game 1 before dropping a nailbiter, 8-7, in Game 2. On Sunday, the Bulldogs earned a huge bounce-back win, 8-1, in Game 1 against Fairleigh Dickinson, but could not overcome a three-run deficit it Game 2, falling, 3-1.

Despite a 1-3 record over the weekend, a few Bulldogs put together some impressive performances. Junior infielder Amy Weinberg (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) hit .545 (6-for-11) in four games for the Bulldogs, tallying a pair of doubles, three RBI and a run scored. Classmate Aubrey Mable (Aurora, Colo.) is playing as well as anyone in the NEC, hitting .500 over the weekend (6-for-12) with three homeruns, four runs scored and six RBI. Mable's .412 batting average, seven homers and 31 RBI this season all rank near the top among the NEC statistical leaders. Junior outfielder Lauren Guy (La Habra, Calif.) has also been on fire, posting a .385 average with two homeruns and three RBI over the last four contests.

Boston University comes to Smithfield with a 14-20-1 overall mark, 5-4 in America East play this season. Most recently, the Terriers are coming off a three-game sweep of UMBC over the weekend. Junior Jayme Mask leads BU with a .382 average, with a team-leading 42 hits and 24 runs scored, while classmate Amy Ekart paces the Terriers in the power categories with four homers, 19 RBI and a .511 slugging percentage. Senior Whitney Tuthill handles most of the pitching duties for BU, posting an impressive 2.45 era in 143 innings pitched this season.

Last season, the Bulldogs split their season-series with the Terriers, dropping the first game at home in March, 13-3, before seeking revenge in Boston, 3-2, last April.
