SOFTBALL EARNS FOURTH-STRAIGHT WIN THURSDAY BEHIND SEVEN STRONG INNINGS FROM JACOB

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – After scoring the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh inning, the Bryant University softball team earned its fourth-straight victory, topping Boston University, 4-3, Thursday afternoon in Boston.

Senior Jennifer Jacob (Deer Park, N.Y.) was solid once again for the Bulldogs (18-20, 7-9 Northeast Conference) inside the pitching circle, allowing just three runs on nine hits, to go along with five strikeouts, in seven innings of work.

The Bulldogs got things started in the top of the first when junior shortstop Aubrey Mable (Aurora, Colo.) laced a single to center field, allowing classmate Lauren Guy (La Habra, Calif.) to score, granting Bryant the early 1-0 advantage.

The Terriers (17-23) responded in the bottom of the second innings, scoring a pair off an Emily Felbaum two-run double to left center. BU added one more in the bottom of the third inning off an infield hit from Chelsea Kehr, putting the hosts up, 3-1, after three.

In the top of the fifth, Mable stepped up to the plate and belted a two-run double to left center, scoring junior catcher Kendall Corder (Carmichael, Calif.) and Guy, knotting the game, 3-3. The Bulldogs added one more in the top of the seventh inning when the Black and Gold were able to capitalize on a BU error as Guy scampered across home plate to score her third run of the afternoon and put Bryant up, 4-3.

BU had runners on the corners in the bottom of the seventh but Jacob was too much on the hill for Bryant, leading the Bulldogs to the 4-3 victory.

Mable continues to menace opposing pitchers, collecting three hits on Thursday to go along with a pair of RBI. Guy was impressive as well, reaching base in all four her at bats (two hits, two walks) while scoring three of Bryant's four runs.

Bryant will head home four a pair of doubleheaders over the weekend, opening with Quinnipiac on Saturday (2/4 p.m.) and concluding with Robert Morris on Senior Day Sunday (12/2 p.m.).
