Bulldogs fall at BC in season finale

SOFTBALL DROPS 11-2 DECISION AT BOSTON COLLEGE THURSDAY IN SEASON FINALE

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University softball team closed the 2013 regular season with an 11-2 loss in five innings to Boston College Thursday afternoon in Chestnut Hill, Mass.

With the victory, the Eagles (14-34) earn a season sweep of the Bulldogs (21-22, 10-10 Northeast Conference) after topping the Black and Gold in Smithfield, 4-3 (8 innings), in March.

The ACC-foe tallied six runs in the bottom of the first inning to take an early advantage and never looked back as BC starter Chelsea Dimon earned his 10th win of the season. Senior Jennifer Jacob (Deer Park, N.Y.) threw three innings for the Bulldogs, allowing nine runs (only three earned), while classmate Brittany Hart (North Andover, Mass.) allowed two runs on two hits in one inning of relief work.

Bryant pushed a run across in the top of the second inning off a Talia Zizza (Reading, Mass.) single to left center, scoring junior Taylor Bell (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.), and then again in the top of the third inning off a Bell sacrifice fly that scored junior Aubrey Mable (Aurora, Colo.).

After the huge first inning, the Eagles went on to score five more runs, earning their 14th victory of the season.

The Black and Gold shut the door on the 2013 season with a great final two weeks, winning seven games in-a-row before dropping their last two decisions of the year.
