Bulldogs open Spring Break week in San Luis Obispo at Mustang Classic

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University softball team returns to the diamond over the weekend when it kicks off its Spring Break trip in San Luis Obispo, Calif., for the Mustang Classic.

The Bulldogs will play 14 games over the course of the next nine days, including five this weekend, as they hit the road for an extended week in The Golden State featuring stops in San Luis Obispo, Riverside, San Diego, and Northridge.

After a historic opening weekend in South Carolina, the Black and Gold came back down to earth at the Wildcat Invitational this past week, going 1-5 in Tucson, Ariz. The Bulldogs were dealt a trio of tough losses to open the weekend before stringing together some offense to knock off UTEP, 7-4.

On the final day of the tournament, Bryant gave No. 15 Arizona everything they could handle, taking the hosts to the wire thanks to a seventh inning grand slam from junior Hayley Bottino (Canyon Country, Calif.), but the Wildcats eventually prevailed to take both games of the double header.

Sophomore outfielder Lauren Keast (Holliston, Mass.) registered her first two career homeruns over the weekend, while classmate Taylor Burger (Killingworth, Conn.) collected five hits in just four games.

Looking ahead, the Black and Gold will open the Mustang Classic with a triple header on Saturday, opening vs. Sacramento St. (5-9), followed up by games vs. IUPUI (10-3) and Southern Utah (3-12) before wrapping up the tournament with games vs. San Diego (10-9) and host Cal Poly (8-11) on Sunday.
