Bulldogs return to New England, take on Eagles, Wednesday at 4 p.m.

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – After posting their first victory of the spring over North Carolina State University, the Bryant University softball team returns to the Northeast to take on Boston College at 4 p.m. in Chestnut Hill.

This contest marks the Bulldogs (1-20) and Eagles (17-12, 3-3 ACC) seventh meeting with the series mark in Boston College's favor, 5-1. In their latest meeting last season, the Eagles took down the Bulldogs, 7-6, in extra innings in the 2015 finale.

The Bulldogs enter the contest after earning their first win of the season, 8-5, over North Carolina State at the N.C. State DoubleTree RDU Invite in Raleigh. The Black and Gold's five-run seventh inning led by senior Elle Madsen's (Wheat Ridge, Colo.) three-run homer and sophomore Rachel Monroe's (Southwick, Mass.) two-run home run aided the Bulldogs in the victory.

Madsen went 6-for-13 with three runs scored over the final four games of the North Carolina spring tour. The senior captain has hit safely in four-straight games, while junior Taylor Burger (Killingworth, Conn.) leads the team with four multi-hit games. Burger also leads the team with eight RBI, but the Bulldogs hit just .181 as a team.

The Bryant pitching staff boasts a 5.43 ERA after the first 21 games, while freshman Colby Norris (Toano, Va.) leads the group with 33 strike outs, averaging 4.10 per game.

The Eagles are coming off a three-game losing streak, dropping all three to Virginia Tech, 4-0, 8-7, and 11-3, in Blacksburg. The Eagles are batting .274 and have hit 21 home runs as a team. Jessie Daulton leads the squad at .337, posting five doubles, five home runs and 17 RBI this season. Tatiana Cortez leads the team with eight home runs and has hit three against the Bulldogs in her career.

On the mound, BC has posted a 2.79 ERA. Allyson Frei is 9-7 with a 3.17 ERA, while Jessica Dreswick is 8-4 with a 2.22 ERA. The Eagles, however, have posted just a 124 strike outs in 190.2 innings.
