Madsen and Bottino earn Second Team All-NEC honors

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Seniors Elle Madsen (Wheat Ridge, Colo.) and Hayley Bottino (Canyon Country, Calif.) were named to the Northeast Conference Second Team, following Madsen's conference performance in the circle and Bottino's versatility in the field, as announced by the league on Wednesday.

Madsen helped the Bulldogs to six-straight wins from the end of April through the start of May, including back-to-back sweeps over conference foes Fairleigh Dickinson and Central Connecticut, totaling 15 strikeouts in 18.0 innings. In her best personal performance, Madsen won three-consecutive contests on the mound, aiding Bryant in defeats over Wagner and Mount St. Mary's. The senior stepped up in NEC play, earning seven of the team's nine wins in the circle against conference competitors. Madsen leads the pitching staff with a 3.11 overall ERA and a 1.98 ERA in league play, throwing 77 strikeouts this season, becoming fourth in program history after fanning 373 batters in her four-year Bryant career.

Bottino contributed to Bryant's success, playing first and third base, while making 17 appearances in the circle. In the field, the senior logged the team's third-most 107 putouts, recording a career-high 10 on two occasions this year. Bottino earned two wins on the mound, including the Bulldogs' 5-3 win over Central Connecticut and 5-3 triumph over Fairleigh Dickinson two days later. In both contests, Bottino combined to go 3-for-6 with three runs, two RBI and two homers, one in which gave the Bulldogs the 4-3 edge after five innings in game two against the Blue Devils. Bottino finished the regular season with a .270 batting average, a team-high .407 on base percentage and Bryant's second highest .427 slugging percentage, which helps ranks her 10th all-time with a career slugging percentage of .492.

Both seniors' leadership on the field will be instrumental, as the No. 4 Bulldogs prepare to take on No. 1 LIU Brooklyn in the first contest of the NEC Tournament, Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in Brooklyn.
