Bulldogs drop both games at Aggie Invitational II on Thursday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University softball team made a one-day appearance at the Aggie Invitational II on Thursday, where they fell to North Dakota, 9-2, and UC Davis, 15-0, in five innings.

GAME ONE

After the Bulldogs (3-15) led, 2-1, in the top of the second, the Fighting Hawks (11-15) scored in four of the final five innings, capturing the 9-2 victory on Thursday.

North Dakota took an early 1-0 lead in the first, after Kaylin VanDomelen was walked with the bases loaded, sending Mary Martin in for the score. The Bulldogs responded back with two runs in the top of the second. With two outs and runners on second and third, junior Gianna Pizzano (Saugus, Mass.) singled to third base, allowing freshman Marianna Politis (Arcadia, Calif.) and junior Robyn Ukegawa (Carlsbad, Calif.) to score.

The Fighting Hawks earned back the lead in the bottom of the frame, plating three runs to go up, 4-2. North Dakota tacked on two more runs in the third and fourth innings, respectively, before putting the game away in the fifth with an RBI sacrifice fly to seal the 9-2 win.

The Fighting Hawks scored nine runs off nine hits, as Rachael Waynick went a perfect 3-for-3, while Victoria Minor finished 3-for-4. The Bulldogs totaled two runs off three hits, as Politis lead the team with a 2-for-3 mark.

VanDomelen earned the win on the mound, allowing two runs off two hits, while fanning seven batters in five innings. Sophomore Colby Norris (Toano, Va.) recorded the loss after allowing nine runs off nine hits and seven walks. Norris finished with four strikeouts.

GAME TWO

The Aggies (10-17) got off to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first and never looking back, sending an 11-run statement in the bottom of the second that lifted the hosts to a 15-0 win over the Bulldogs (3-16) in five innings.

UC Davis scored 15 runs off 11 hits, including homeruns by Alexis Carney and Ashley Lotoszynski. Lotoszynski went 2-for-2, while also finishing with one of the team's seven stolen bases.

Andrea Reynolds moved to 4-8 on the season after letting up no runs off two hits, while striking out one batter. The Bulldogs played three from their staff, but sophomore Brandi Burgin (Santa Clarita, Calif.) was issued the loss after allowing six runs off three hits, including a homer in 1.1 innings.

The Bulldogs will look to bounce back in their five-game series at the CSUN Tournament, beginning tomorrow against Northern Colorado at 4:30 p.m. (ET).
