Bryant drops 10-2 decision to Boston College Wednesday

BRIGHTON, Mass. – Junior Jessica Gradillas (Nogales, Ariz.) drove in a pair of runs, but the Bryant University softball team was otherwise stymied by Boston College, 10-2, Wednesday at the Harrington Athletics Village. 

Gradillas drove in a pair of runs on a two-run double for the Bulldogs' lone hit off Boston College's Allyson Frei, who brought a no-hitter into the fifth inning. Bryant drew seven walks in the contest, tied for a season-high.

  • Bryant trailed 2-0 halfway through the contest, but Boston College broke out for four runs in the fourth inning, as the first seven Eagles picked up hits.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Boston College got on the board first with a first-inning RBI groundout.
  • The Eagles doubled their advantage an inning later with a solo homer from Cami Sellers.
  • Bryant trailed 2-0 through three, but the Eagles scored four times in the bottom of the fourth, with each of the first seven hitters of the inning collecting base hits. BC would leave the bases loaded.
  • The Bulldogs cracked the scoreboard in the top of the fifth on Gradillas' two-out, two-run double. Junior Jenna Cali (Franklinville, N.J.) worked a walk as a pinch-hitter and was followed by a free pass to sophomore Tiffany Bell (Egg Harbor City, N.J.) before both came home to score on Gradillas' double.
  • Boston College scored three runs in the bottom of the inning before adding the winning run on a bases-loaded hit by pitch in the sixth.

STATS

  • Gradillas drove in two runs for a team-leading 21 on the season.
  • Bell stole her 10th base of the year on 12 attempts and walked twice for 15 on the season. Both totals lead the team.
  • Sophomore Gabrielle Ermish (Pottstown, Pa.) drew a pair of walks.
