Summer Intern Series: Colby Norris

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- All summer long, Bryant Athletics is highlighting the internships that student-athletes are involved with. Each Wednesday, Bryant Athletics will feature a question and answer session with a student-athlete about their internship and how it is preparing them for a life after sports.

Colby Norris | Rising senior | Softball

Bryant Athletics: What is your internship for the summer?

Colby Norris: I am working in a neuroscience lab at the University of Rhode Island through the RI-INBRE SURF program.

BA: How does this relate to your field of study?

CN: I am a biology and psychology double major, so neuroscience is a fun blend of both disciplines! The biomedical research was also appealing because I am hoping to attend medical school.

BA: What is one part of the internship that you are most excited for?

CN: I am really looking forward to the poster session at the end of the internship. All of the undergraduate researchers get to make their own poster and share the research from over the summer!

BA: What are you hoping to take away from this internship?

CN: I am hoping to take away more laboratory knowledge. This is my second summer working in a lab, but on very different materials, so I am really excited to see the difference between the types of research.

BA: What is one piece of advice you'd give to someone interested in getting into this field?

CN: Don't be scared to jump feet-first into research, especially if you are unfamiliar with the topic. Everyone in the labs know that you're there to learn, and they'll never fault you for asking questions
