Bulldogs drop both to SFU in two pitchers duels

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Bryant University softball team fell to Northeast Conference opponent Saint Francis by scores of 4-2 and 3-2 in multiple pitchers duels at Conaty Park this afternoon.

"Tough end result, but we were right there all day with the best team in the conference. I couldn't be prouder of the effort today from the entire team". 

Key Moment (Game 1)

  • SFU hit a three-run home run with two outs in the top of the sixth inning to break the 1-1 tie.

How it Happened (Game 1)

  • In the top of the first inning, SFU scored the first run of the game on an RBI triple (1-0).
  • Jenna Gardner began the bottom of the third inning with a walk and then proceeded to steal second base. Toni Camarillo singled through the right side, advancing Gardner to third. McKeveny then grounded out to shortstop, tying the game at one (1-1).
  • The Red Flash broke the game open in the top of the sixth inning with a three-run home run to center field (4-1).
  • During the bottom of the sixth inning, Alexis Clancy scored the game's final run on an RBI single to right field (4-2).

How it Happened (Game 2)

  • The Red Flash earned a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning with an RBI single to third base (1-0).
  • During the top of the fifth inning, SFU scored their second run on an RBI single through the right side (2-0).
  • Camarillo and McKeveny hit back-to-back singles, and then each stole a base to put runners on second and third with no outs. Hernandez then hit an RBI single through the infield to cut the SFU lead in half (2-1). Jane Owens pinch ran for Hernandez and advanced to third on a fielder's choice. Marcel then hit into a fielder's choice, but Owens beat the throw to home to tie the game at two (2-2) in the bottom of the sixth inning.
  • SFU took a one-run lead in the top of the seventh inning on a two-single to right field, which ended being the winning run (3-2).

Stats (Game 2)

  • McKeveny went 2-3 from the plate.
  • Hernandez and Marcel each had a hit and an RBI.
  • Camarillo, Gardner, and Allison Tomaino all posted a hit.
  • Kylie Kenney had four strikeouts in five innings pitched.
