Bulldogs improve to 4-0 after DH sweep of NSU

NORFOLK, VA. – The Bryant University softball team won both games of a doubleheader against Norfolk St to finish the Battle at the Bay tournament 4-0, the best start in DI program history

Key Moment (Gm1)

  • NSU tied the game at three in the bottom of the third, the Bulldogs responded with a five run fifth inning to take control.

How it Happened (Gm1)

  • Hudson hit a double to center field and then scored on a passed ball in the top of the first inning (1-0).
  • She was then brought home on an RBI double by McKenzie McAloon (2-0).
  • The Spartans scored their first run of the game on a groundout in the bottom of the second (2-1).
  • The Bulldogs tallied their third run on an NSU error (3-1) during the top of the third inning.
  • NSU countered by tying the game at three off of two bases-loaded walks in the bottom of the third.
  • During the top of the fifth inning, A but single by Coleman resulted in two runs thanks to a throwing error. Cochran drove in a pair with a single and Marcel capped the four-run inning with a sac fly (8-3).
  • Sam Rohwer and Amira Rainer were hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second, and then a sac bunt moved them to second and third, setting up McAloon, who tallied a sac fly, and Cochran who launched an RBI-double to center field (10-3), in the top of the sixth inning.
  • The Black and Gold recorded two more runs in the inning by way of an error and passed ball (12-3).
  • NSU posted three runs in the bottom half of the inning off of two singles (12-6).
  • Bryant scored the final two runs of the game on a groundout and RBI single by Cochran (14-6).

  • The Bulldogs countered in the top of the third inning, placing runners on first and second, followed by an RBI single to right field from Clancy, cutting the deficit to two runs (3-1).
  • Both runners advanced to second and third on a passed ball, which set up Ashley Kaiser, who brought a run home on an RBI groundout (3-2).
  • The Black and Gold tied the game at three due to a passed ball.
  • Clancy hit a leadoff double in the top of the fifth inning, and Gracie Bishop was walked. The go-ahead run was scored on a Spartan error (4-3).
  • Bryant scored the game's final run on an NSU error in the top of the sixth inning (5-3).
