Hudson hits a Grand Slam as Bryant defeats Purdue Fort Wayne and Lafayette on Friday

COLLEGE PARK, MD. – The Bryant University softball team defeated Purdue Fort Wayne and Lafayette during day one of the Maryland Softball Tournament by scores of 12-3 and 4-3.

Aleix Hudson hit a grand slam in the game one victory, and Sam Rohwer hit a two-run bomb. Megan Marcel and McKenzie McAloon went 3-3 at the plate with an RBI in the win against Lafayette.

Key Moment (GM1)

  • Bulldogs held Purdue Fort Wayne scoreless until the sixth inning.

How it Happened (GM1)

  • Alexis Clancy hit a leadoff single in the top of the fourth, followed by singles from Megan Marcel and Gracie Bishop, leading to an RBI single from Laniya Lewis, bringing home two (2-0).
  • Clancy hit a one-out single and stole second base, advancing Hudson to third. Alexis Larrow then hit a sac-fly making the score 3-0, before Rohwer launched a two-run home run to LF in the top of the fifth inning (5-0). Bishop tallied the fourth run of the inning on a double to right-center (6-0).
  • In the bottom of the sixth inning, Purdue Fort Wayne tallied three runs on a double, groundout, and single (6-3).
  • Marcel began the top of the seventh with a single, and then the bases were loaded on back-to-back walks. Laniya Lewis hit a sac fly (7-3), and Kaiser was walked during the next at-bat and loaded the bases again, which set up Hudson, who launched a grand slam to deep center (11-3). The game's final run was scored because of a PFW throwing error (12-3).

  • The Bulldogs took the lead in the bottom of the second off of an RBI double from Marcel and a double steal (2-1).
  • At the bottom of the fourth, Rohwer and Marcel hit back-to-back singles, setting up Marcel, who scored off a throwing error during a McKenzie McAloon single (3-1).
  • Marcel hit a leadoff single in the bottom of the sixth and was brought home by a McAloon RBI-double (4-1).
  • Lafayette got within a run in the top of the seventh (4-3), but fell short off of a relief effort from Kylie Kenney, who forced a line out to end the game.
