TRACK COMPETES AT BROWN SPRINGTIME INVITATIONAL

TRACK & FIELD TEAMS COMPETE AT BROWN SPRINGTIME INVITE

RESULTS

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Bryant University men’s and women’s outdoor track & field teams capped off a busy weekend by competing at the Brown University Springtime Invitational Sunday.

Following the Penn Relays Thursday and Friday, both the present and past of Bulldogs Track & Field were on hand as former great Hafiz Greigre lined up with some of his former teammates in the sprint events.

In the 100 meters, Bulldog standout Thomas O’Connor (pictured) placed sixth overall with a time of 11.18 seconds while teammate Joseph Pugliano took 18th in 11.69.  Greigre, who owns several school records and runs for Greater Boston Track Club, finished fourth in 11.09.

In the 200 meters, O’Connor edged out Greigre for third place as the junior crossed the line in 22.24 seconds, just edging Greigre’s 22.40.  Pugliano ran very well, taking home 13th in 23.26.

After suffering an injury earlier this season, Alex Engel made the return to the track Friday at the Penn Relays as part of Bryant’s 4x400 meter relay squad.  Sunday at Brown, Engel didn’t miss a beat as the senior placed second overall in the 200 meters in 49.07.  UMass Lowell’s Evan White took first in 48.77.  Ben Polichronopoulos earned a top-10 finish with a ninth-place showing in 52.41.

Engel would later help lead the men’s 4x400 meter relay to a first-place finish in 3:21.23.

Other highlights for the men include Anthony Monteiro’s fourth-place in the 110 hurdles (15.73) and Kenny Rayner’s fourth in the 3,000 in 9:17.23 while Ben Coughling was fourth in the 3000m steeplechase in a time of 9:17.23.  Connor Richardson was fifth in the triple jump at 12.32 meters with Brian Hardeman sixth at 12.23 meters.

On the women’s side, the Bulldogs got a strong boost from Megan Robertson who ran very well in the 3000 meters.   The freshman standout placed second overall in a time of 10:11.79 behind overall winner Megan Fitzpatrick of Brown who finished in 9:55.72.

Sherika Nicholas took 13th in the 200 meters in 27.04 with teammate Amanda Dilley coming in at 19th in 27.79.

Amanda Garber and Molly Tower led the way in the 1500, finishing 32nd and 34th respectively while Rachel Williams was 25th in the 400 meters in 1:05.42.

In the field events, Joanna Chanaj finished tied for sixth in the high jump, clearing 1.48 meters while teammate and senior Melanie Farbotko was 11th with a mark of 1.40 meters.
