Monteiro shatters record at Brown Invit.

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Junior Anthony Monteiro (Leominster, Mass.) shattered the previous school record in the 110m hurdles with his blazing fast time of 15.48, as the Bryant University track and field team deposited another solid outing at the Brown Invitational Saturday afternoon.

Monteiro's school-best time was good enough for fifth-place at the meet and he was joined by a number of other Bulldogs as top performers.

"Everyone seems to be really improving as each week passes," said head track and field coach Stephanie Reilly. "I know for certain that as we move closer to conferences we should start to see more personal bests, and that is due in large part to how hard these kids are working."

Ben Polichronopoulos (South Berwick, Maine) and Ryan Busy (Derry, N.H.) put forth remarkable showings in their events, as Polichronopoulos set a personal best in the mile run with his sixth-place time of 4:26.52. While Busy set a new personal best in the 3,000m run with a time of 8:37.26, crossing the finish line sixth overall.

In the field, Nathaniel Askew (Westborough, Mass.) and Peter Alie (Stoneham, Mass.) registered strong performances in the men's high jump competition, both finishing in a tie for sixth with a 1.83m leap.

On the women's side, Sherika Nicholas (East Patchogue, N.Y.) continued to improve as the senior crossed the finish line sixth in the 400m dash with a time of 1:00.49.

Eimear Black (Glengormley, Ireland) and Megan Robertson (Sewell, N.J.) paced the Bulldogs in the distance competitions once again. Black ran a 2:23.99 time in the 800m and finished 17th overall out of the 38-person field. While Robertson had a superb showing the 3,000m run with a 14th-place time of 10:44.59.

In the field, the Bryant women were led by sophomore Allison Pavao (Swansea, Mass.), as the 5-foot-9 Massachusetts native hurled the Javelin 30.54m for an 8th place finish.

The Bulldogs will take a week off before returning to action Friday, April 29 at the Stonehill Invitational in Easton, Mass.
