MONTEIRO SETS PROGRAM RECORD IN 60m HURDLES

RESULTS

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior Anthony Monteiro (Leominster, Mass.) set a school record and tied for first in the 60m hurdles and Chris Brida (Southampton, Mass.) and Jasmine Bryant (Salem, Mass.) each earned a pair of top-three finishes as the Bryant University track and field team competed in Greater Boston TC Invitational on Sunday (Jan. 22) at Harvard University.

Already the school's record-holder in the event, Monteiro topped his own time for last year with a finish 8.44, finishing dead even with Sheldon Allen. His finish was one of many strong showings for the Bulldogs.

A fellow senior, Brida put together a very impressive meet. He finished third in the long jump with a distance of 6.34m and earned second place in the triple jump with a distance of 13.47m. The rookie Bryant matched him with a third-place showing in the triple jump (10.34m) and a second-place finish in the 60m hurdles, breaking the school record she set earlier this year with a time of 9.47.

Other top finishers for the men included Brian Hardeman's (Wrightstown, N.J.) third-place finish in the triple jump (13.03m) and Scott Twardowski's (Rehoboth, Mass.) second-place finish in the mile run (4:20.49). Michael Arons (West Hartford, Conn.) added a fourth-place finish in the 200m dash with a time of 23.19, Ronald Hill (New Bedford, Mass.) finished seventh in the 60m hurdles, Nick Todman (Danbury, Conn.) finished seventh in the shot put and eighth in the weight throw, Kevin Louine (Mattapan, Mass.) and Kyle Reid (North Raynham, Mass.) finished 6-7 in the 400m dash with times of 51.75 and 51.80, respectively, and David Hurley (Ashawy, R.I.) ran to a ninth-place finish in the 3000m run.

The Bulldogs earned their second victory of the day in the 4x440 yard relay, as the team of Arons, Louine, Monteiro and Reid out-raced the pack and crossed the line with a time of 3:29.43.

On the women's side, Amanda Dilley (Bridgewater, Mass.) raced to a third-place finish in the 400m dash with a time of 1:02.30. The Black and Gold also received strong performances from their distance runners as freshman Kara Walsh (Waltham, Mass.) finished third in the mile run (5:22.70), freshman Brooke Tomasetti (Waterford, Conn.) finished fifth in the 800m run (2:20.64), missing the school record by less than a second, sophomore Lauren Ganim (Trumbull, Conn.) finished seventh in the 3000m run (11:19.62) and sophomore Eimear Black (Glengormley, Ireland) finished ninth in the Bill Squires one mile run. Katelyn Kelleher (Wrentham, Mass.) earned a sixth-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 10.10m.

The Bulldogs return to the track this weekend when they travel Boston, Mass., to compete in the Terrier Invitational Select Meet (Jan. 27-28) and against MIT (Jan. 28).
