FULL RESULTS

Landover, Md. – Led by sophomore Eimear Black (Glengormley, Ireland) and graduate student Scott Twardowski (Rehoboth, Mass.) in the 3000m run, the Bryant University men's and women's track and field teams are 8th and 9th, respectively, after day one of the Northeast Conference Track & Field Championships.

The school record-holder in the 3000m run, Twardowski earned the first points of the championships for the Bulldogs, finishing seventh in a field of 32 runners. He crossed the finish line with a time of 8:35.53, earning Bryant two points. Black followed Twardowski's lead, finishing fifth in the women's 3000m run with a season-best time of 10:00.38. Not only did the finish earn the Bulldogs four points, it also solidified Black's qualification for the New England Championships.

Bryant also received strong performances from senior Anthony Monteiro (Leominster, Mass.) and freshman Brooke Tomasetti (Waterford, Conn.). Monteiro just missed advancing to the finals in the 60m hurdles, as his time of 8.50 was one hundredth of a second behind the final qualifier. Racing in her first conference championships, Tomasetti also just missed out on advancing to the finals, finishing second in her heat and 11th overall. Her time of 2:22.58 was just 36 hundredths of a second shy of Emily MacEwen's heat-winning and qualifying time.

Other standout performances for the Bulldogs came from senior Chris Brida (Southampton, Mass.) and freshmen Kara Walsh (Waltham, Mass.) and Nicholas Douglas (Shelton, Conn.). Brida won his long jump heat by jumping a season-best 6.47m. His distance earned him a 12th-place finish overall. Walsh carried the torch for the Bulldogs in the mile run, crossing the line in 5:22.65 and finishing 14th overall. Douglas represented the Black and Gold in the 400m dash and finished third in his heat and 14th overall with a time of 52.56.

The NEC Championships continue tomorrow at Prince George's S&L Complex, with the women's weight throw kicking things off at 9:30 a.m.
