Three school records fall at Holy Cross

MONTEIRO, BUSBY AND BRYANT SET PROGRAM MARKS AT HOLY CROSS INVITE

WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior Anthony Monteiro (Leominster, Mass.) broke his own school record in the 110m hurdles, senior Ryan Busby (Derry, N.H.) broke a 10-year old record in the 1500 and freshman Jasmine Bryant (Salem, Mass.) broke a 20-year old record in the 100m hurdles as the Bryant University Track and Field team competed at the Holy Cross Invitational Meet on Saturday (April 21).

The Bulldog women finished seventh in the meet, while the men finished fifth on Saturday. Monteiro's time of 15.09 was nearly a half second quicker the mark he set last season. He finished third in the event. After nearly breaking the record in the 1500 last weekend, Busby was able to complete the task this weekend. Busby finished the event with a time of 3:55.46, breaking the old mark set in 2002 by Jason Eddy by nearly two seconds. His time also earned him his second consecutive first-place finish in the event. Already the school record holder in the 55m and 60m hurdles indoors, Bryant broke Angela Trombley's 1992 record of 16.14 with a time of 15.71.

Bryant also received several other strong finishes and point scorers. Danielle Davis (Brentwood, N.H.) finished fourth in the high jump with a height of 1.45m and Katelyn Kelleher (Wrentham, Mass.) finished fifth in the discus (36.35m) and sixth in the hammer throw (37.16m). Allison Pavao (Swansea, Mass.) earned a sixth-place finish in the javelin with a throw of 30.60m.

On the men's side, 12 individual helped the Black and Gold score 73.50 points. Ronald Hill (New Bedford, Mass.) finished right behind Monteiro in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.83 and Zachary LaClair (North Attleboro, Mass.) finished fourth in the javelin with a throw of 44.69m. Other scorers for the Bulldogs included Brian Hardeman (Wrightstown, N.J.) in the triple jump (7th, 12.52m), Nick Todman (Danbury, Conn.) in the shot put (8th, 12.25m), Ademitokunbo Oremule (Mansfield, Conn.) in the high jump (5th, 1.80m), Patrick Decker (Colchester, Conn.) in the pole vault (6th, 3.80m), Nicholas Douglas (Shelton, Conn.) in the 400 (5th, 50.15), Kyle Reid (North Raynham, Mass.) in the 100 (6th, 11.20), Kevin Louine (Mattapan, Mass.) in the 200 (8th, 22.50) and David Hurley (Ashaway, R.I.) in the 5000 (7th, 16:32.72). The Black and Gold earned their second first-place finish in the 4x400m relay. Reid, Louine, Douglas and Ryan Flanagan (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) teamed to win the event with a time of 3:20.55.

The Bulldogs return to the track next weekend when they compete in the Brown Springtime Invitational in Providence, R.I.
