Bulldogs finish strong at New Englands

T&F CLOSES SEASON WITH STRONG PERFORMANCE AT NEW ENGLANDS

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Led by a school-record performance from freshman Jasmine Bryant (Salem, Mass.), the Bryant University track and field team wrapped up its 2011-12 season at the New England Championships this past weekend.

Already the school record holder in the 100m hurdles, Bryant set the bar even higher, finishing 17th with a time of 15.42. She was joined at the championships by Ryan Busby (Derry, N.H.), Anthony Monteiro (Leominster, Mass.), Ronald Hill (New Bedford, Mass.), Brooke Tomasetti (Waterford, Conn.), Kara Walsh (Waltham, Mass.), Katelyn Kelleher (Wrentham, Mass.) and the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams.

Running in the final meets of their careers, Busby and Monteiro posted strong finishes. Busby finished 13th in the 1500 with a time of 3:56.43, while Monteiro earned a 14th-place finish in the 400m hurdles with a time of 55.61. Monteiro also competed in the 110m hurdles and finished 26 with a time of 17.01. Hill finished the 110m hurdles in 15.99, good enough for 24th.

Tomasetti and Walsh both competed in the 800, finishing 24th and 28th respectively. Tomasetti finished with a time of 2:18.03 and Walsh finished in 2:20.75. Kelleher competed in the discus throw and finished 16th with a throw of 36.20m.

Both relay teams had strong showings, finishing fifth and eighth. The 4x100 relay team of Michael Arons (West Hartford, Conn.), Kyle Reid (North Raynham, Mass.), Kevin Louine (Mattapan, Mass.) and Nicholas Douglas (Shelton, Conn.) finished fifth with a time of 42.44. Reid, Louine and Douglas then joined Monteiro to finish eighth in the 4x400 with a time of 3:19.23.
