Black sets school record on day 2 of NECs

BLACK'S SCHOOL RECORD HIGHLIGHTS FINAL DAY OF NECs

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Junior Eimear Black's (Glengormley, Ireland) school-record time in the 5000 highlighted the Bryant University track and field teams day two competition at the 2013 Northeast Conference Championships in Landover, Md.

Monmouth swept the meet, winning on both the men's and women's team titles. LIU Brooklyn finished second on both sides. The Bulldog men and women both finished 11th.

The 2012 NEC Cross Country Athlete of the Year, Black finished third in the 5000 with a school-record time of 17:11.68. Black's time was 17 seconds faster than the previous program mark set in 2003 by Paula Klepadlo and also qualified her for the ECAC Championships in two weeks. After advancing to the finals with her time on Saturday, junior Martha Reynolds (London, England) finished eighth in the mile with a time of 5:16.03. Reynolds also helped Bryant's distance medley relay team finish third with a time of 12:24.51. Sophomores Brooke Tomasetti (Waterford, Conn.) and Kara Walsh (Waltham, Mass.) and freshman Annmarie Tuxbury (New Hartford, Conn.) joined Reynolds.

On the men's side, the 4x400 relay team ran to a fourth-place finish with a time of 3:26.44. Junior Kyle Reid (North Raynham, Mass.), sophomores Kevin Louine (Mattapan, Mass.) and Nicholas Douglas (Shelton, Conn.) and senior Michael Arons (West Hartford, Conn.) joined to earn the top-five finish.
