Three school records fall at Stonehill Invite

BLACK CLAIMS FOURTH SCHOOL RECORD OF YEAR

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University track and field teams received school record-breaking performances from junior Eimear Black (Glengormley, Ireland) and both 4x100 relay teams on Friday at the Stonehill Invitational.

The men finished fourth with 91 points, while the women finished fifth with 54 points. It was the Bulldogs' final tune up prior to the Northeast Conference Championships next weekend in West Long Branch, N.J.

Black continued to etch her name into the record book this season with another strong performance in the 3000. The school-record holder in the 3000 indoor record, Black won the event on Friday with a school-record time of 9:46.72. She now holds both the indoor and outdoor school records in the 3000 and 5000.

Bryant's 4x100 relay teams also had strong showings, picking up a pair of school records. On the men's side, Toren O'Leary (Luxembourg), Kyle Reid (North Raynham, Mass.), Kevin Louine (Mattapan, Mass.) and Nicholas Douglas (Shelton, Conn.) combined to finish first and set the record with a time of 42.06. On the women's side, the quartet of Amanda Dilley (Bridgewater, Mass.), Jasmine Bryant (Salem, Mass.), Kristen Hayes (Menands, N.Y.) and Nicole Dempsey (Norwell, Mass.) set a new school record for the second time in three weeks with a time of 49.30.

The Bulldogs got three other stellar performances in the distance events. Senior Megan Robertson (Sewell, N.J.) won the 5000 with a time of 19:15.02 and junior Martha Reynolds (London, England) finished fourth in the 1500 (4:38.84). Sophomore Blake Fenwick (Thomaston, Conn.) finished fifth in the men's 5000 with a time of 15:23.03.

In the sprints, the Black and Gold received another strong performance in the 100. O'Leary finished second (11.35), Louine finished fourth (11.42) and Reid finished fifth (11.54). In the 400, Douglas finished sixth with a time of 50.07 and freshman Chad Ward (Delray Beach, Fla.) finished eighth (51.38) in his first collegiate race. Peter Thorp (Ormond Beach, Fla.) and Ronald Hill (New Bedford, Mass.) finished 3-4 in the 110m hurdles with times of 16.24 and 16.41, respectively.

Bryant also had a strong showing in the field events.  Tyler Egner (Niantic, Conn.) matched his program record in the pole vault with a height of 4.25m, finishing third. Patrick Decker (Colchester, Conn.) finished fourth with a height of 4.10m. Brian Sullivan (Hingham, Mass.) won the discus with a toss of 44.10m and Nick Todman (Danbury, Conn.) finished third in the hammer with a throw of 46.37m. Bryant earned a fourth-place in the triple jump with a jump of 10.01m.

The Bulldogs will now prepare for the NEC Championships that begin next Friday, May 3 at Monmouth University.
