Black and Fenwick set records on day one of NECs

BULLDOGS COMPLETE DAY ONE OF NECs

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Junior Eimear Black (Glengormley, Ireland) and sophomore Blake Fenwick (Thomaston, Conn.) both set school records on day one of the Northeast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

After one day of competition, the Bulldog women are in eighth place with eight points and the men are in 10th with four points.

All of Bryant's points on day one came from the distance duo of Black and Fenwick. Running in the 10,000, Black ran to a second-place finish with a time of 36:23.68. The time was over 20 seconds faster than the previous record that was set in 2008 by Nicole Radzik. Also running in the 10,000, Fenwick finished sixth with a time of 32:33.08. His time was six seconds faster than the previous record set in 2009 by Tom Casey.

The Bulldogs also got strong performances from junior Martha Reynolds (London, England) and sophomore Brooke Tomasetti (Waterford, Conn.). Reynolds won her heat and posted the top qualifying time in the 1500, earning the top seed in today's finals with a time of 4:40.20. Tomasetti finished 10th in the 800 with a time of 2:17.38 and just missed out on qualifying for the finals.
