Reynolds, Black lead way on day two of NECs

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Juniors Martha Reynolds (London, England) and Eimear Black (Glengormley, Ireland) paced the Bryant University track and field team on day two of the Northeast Conference Championships.

The Bulldog women finished 11th with 29 points, while the men also finished 11th with 19 points.

After finishing second in the 10,000 on Saturday, Black earned another second-place finish in the 5000 on Sunday, finishing with a time of 17:03.36. Her time qualified her for the ECAC meet. Reynolds finished right behind Black in the race, earning a fourth-place finish with a time of 17:22.58. She finished off her afternoon with a second-place finish in the 1500 with a time of 4:41.26.

Bryant also got strong finishes from its three pole vaulters. Freshman John Somers (Wallingford, Conn.) tied the school record with a height of 4.25m and earned a third-place finish. Tyler Egner (Niantic, Conn.) and Patrick Decker (Colchester, Conn.) both recorded heights of 4.10m, finishing seventh and eighth, respectively. Freshman Adam Malone (Speonk, N.Y.) also finished sixth in the triple jump with a distance of 13.63m.

The Bulldogs 4x100 and 4x400 men's relay teams both performed well, finishing eighth and seventh, respectively. Toren O'Leary (Luxembourg), Kyle Reid (North Raynham, Mass.), Nicholas Douglas (Shelton, Conn.) and Kevin Louine (Mattapan, Mass.) combined in the 4x100, finishing with an IC4A qualifying time of 42.12. Chad Ward (Delray Beach, Fla.) then joined Reid, Louine and Douglas on the 4x400 team that finished with a time of 3:19.00.
