Black earns Capital One Academic All-District honors

BLACK NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – After completing one of the greatest cross country and track and field seasons in school history, junior Eimear Black (Glengormley, Ireland) was recognized for her excellence in the classroom on Thursday, as she was named to the Capital One Academic All-District I women's track and field/cross country First Team.

With the honor, Black becomes the first runner in Division I history to earn Academic All-District recognition. She is now in the running for Academic All-American honors. Black is the only runner from a NEC school to be recognized.

In the classroom, Black has been an outstanding student, posting a remarkable 3.92 GPA in her major field of Biology. The 2012 Northeast Conference Female Cross Country Athlete of the Year, Black won the NEC cross country championship and set five school records during the track and field season, earning a pair of All-NEC honors at the 2013 NEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. She set school records in the 3000 and 5000 during the indoor season and then set school records in the 3000, 5000 and 10000 during the outdoor season.
