Bulldog T&F opens strong at Stony Brook

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Amidst heavy rain and wind, the Bryant University track and field team opened the 2014 outdoor season on Saturday with a strong performance at the Stony Brook Spring Opener.

The Bulldogs men and women each earned three dual victories on the day, defeating Hartford, La Salle and Providence.

On the men's side, Kyle Reid (North Raynham, Mass.) won the 100m dash with a time of 11.36, Nick Todman (Danbury, Conn.) won the shot (12.51m) and discus (33.53m) and Adam Malone (Speonk, N.Y.) won the long jump (6.16m). Bryant also got top-five performances from Ronald Hill (New Bedford, Mass.), Francis Foley (Acton, Mass.), Nicholas Douglas (Shelton, Conn.), Joseph Schwab and Ademitokunbo Oremule (Mansfield, Conn.). Hill finished fourth in the 100 (12.02), Foley was fifth in the 1500 (4:10.66), Douglas was fifth in the 300 (35.78), Schwab was third in the javelin (48.49m) and Oremule was third in the long jump (5.93m).

On the women's side, Kristen Hayes (Menands, N.Y.) won the 300 with a time of 41.52 and Katelyn Kelleher (Wrentham, Mass.) won the hammer (42.25m) and the discus (31.52m). Other top performances came from Rebecca Nunez (Greenwich, R.I.), Martha Reynolds (London, England), Nicole Dempsey (Norwell, Mass.) and Jonee Harrison (Dorchester, Mass.). Nunez finished second in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:12.31, Reynolds was fourth in the 1500 (4:55.78), Dempsey was third in the long jump (4.56m) and fifth in the 300 (44.28) and Harrison finished second in the shot (10.21m).

The Bulldogs return to action on April 12 when they compete in Providence College Invitational.
