Hayes wins 400m hurdles as Bulldogs complete historic performance at NECs

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Sophomore Kristen Hayes (Menands, N.Y.) won the 400m hurdles and set a school record to highlight a historic performance from the Bryant University track and field team at the Northeast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Moon Township, Pa.

The Bulldog women scored 57 points to tie Central Connecticut for seventh, while the men finished ninth with 38 points. LIU Brooklyn won the women's title with 134.50 points and Central Connecticut took the men's title with 145 points.

After running the fastest time in the preliminaries on Saturday, Hayes shattered her own school record in the 400m hurdles by over two seconds, winning the event with a time of 1:01.25. Her time also qualified her for the ECAC meet.

DAY TWO HIGHLIGHTS

Brooke Tomasetti (Waterford, Conn.) finished seventh in the 800 with a time of 2:20.64.

Martha Reynolds (London, England) finished fifth in the 1500 with a time of 4:42.20. She also added a sixth-place finish in the 5000 with a time of 18:14.38.

A day after claiming the 10,000, Eimear Black (Glengormley, Ireland) finished second in the 5000 with a time of 17:28.45.

Annmarie Tuxbury (New Hartford, Conn.) picked up a silver medal in the 3000m Steeplechase, setting a school record with a time of 11:11.15.

Richard Landry (Holyoke, Mass.) and Francis Foley (Acton, Mass.) finished sixth and eighth, respectively, in the 1500. Landry posted a time of 4:07.22, while Foley finished in 4:07.72.

Peter Alie (Stoneham, Mass.) finished fourth in the high jump with a height of 1.93m. He missed out on breaking a 36-year old school record by three quarters of an inch.

Brian Sullivan (Hingham, Mass.) finished fourth in the discus with a throw of 44.46m.

Joseph Schwab finished fourth in the javelin with a school-record throw of 57.51m (188'8"). The throw was eight feet further than the previous school record set in 2004 by Nick Ward.
