Johnson breaks 14-year old school record at Alden Invite

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Freshman Kehma Johnson (Milford, Mass.) broke a 14-year old school record in the triple jump to highlight an outstanding opening weekend for the Bryant University track and field team at the Alden Invitational.

The Bulldogs broke three total school records on the afternoon and numerous athletes moved into the all-time top 10 in program history.

Competing in his first collegiate meet, Johnson shattered the triple jump record with a jump of 14.26m. The jump broke the previous record of 14.02m that was set in 2000 by Jeff Backstrom. Johnson finished second in the event and his performance qualified him for New Englands.

Top Performances

Mike Cooke (Wrentham, Mass.) moved into the top 10 all-time in the shot put with a distance of 13.09m. He finished ninth.

Peter Thorp (Ormond Beach, Fla.) finished fifth in the long jump with a distance of 6.38m.

Adam Malone (Speonk, N.Y.) finished third in the triple jump with a distance of 14.15m. His jump is the best in program history and qualifies him for New Englands.

Deion Raper (Brockton, Mass.) finished third in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.96. It is the third-best time in program history.

Kevin Louine (Mattapan, Mass.) finished seventh in the 60m dash with a time of 7.24.

Milan Duka (Belgrade, Serbia) finished second in the 1000 with a time of 2:34.21.

Nicholas Douglas (Shelton, Conn.) finished third and set a school record in the 300 with a time of 36.28.

Raper, Justin Patterson (Marshfield, Mass.) and Antonio Siracusa (Bridgewater, Mass.) followed in the 300 with times that are ranked 2-4 all-time. Raper ran it in 36.63, Patterson ran it in 37.03 and Siracusa ran it in 37.16.

Nicole Dempsey (Norwell, Mass.) finished sixth in the long jump with a distance of 4.93m. Dempsey also finished eighth in the 60m dash with a time of 8.15. Both times put her in the top 10 all-time.

Jocelyn Davies (Yarmouth, Maine) finished fifth in the high jump with a height of 1.52m. It is the fourth-best mark in school history.

Annmarie Tuxbury (New Hartford, Conn.) won the 1000 and finished second in the mile. Her time of 3:09.06 is the third-best mark in school history.

Brooke Tomasetti (Waterford, Conn.) finished third in the mile run with a time of 5:28.06.

Kristen Hayes (Menands, N.Y.) set a school record in the 300 with a time of 40.95.

MiaLynne Park (Jewett City, Conn.) recorded the second-best mark in the 300 with a time of 41.85.
