Three school records fall at Terrier Invitational

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Sophomore Hayes Watson (Glastonbury, Conn.) and freshmen Milan Duka (Belgrade, Serbia) and Rebecca Varney (East Longmeadow, Mass.) all set school records to lead the Bryant University track and field teams to a strong performance over the weekend at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational.

The three school records highlighted another weekend of top 10 performances for the Black and Gold as they continue to prepare for the Northeast Conference Championships in February.

Watson shattered the school record in the pole vault with a height of 4.55m. The jump broke the previous record of 4.30m set in 2013 by Patrick Decker and qualified him for the New England Championships. Duka broke the school record in the 1000 by three seconds with a time of 2:29.06. The record had stood since 2002 and the time also qualified Duka for New Englands. Varney broke the school record in the pentathlon at the Tufts Stampede. She recorded a score of 2,192 after competing in the 60m hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump and 800.

Top Performers:

Deion Raper (Brockton, Mass.) posted the second-best time in school history in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.70.

Justin Patterson (Marshfield, Mass.) joined the all-time top 10 list in the 400 with a time of 51.39. The time is the ninth-fastest in school history.

Richard Landry (Holyoke, Mass.) ran a time of 8:43.91 in the 3000, moving into seventh place on the all-time list.

Russell Stevens (Colchester, Conn.) joined the top 10 with a time of 15:28.77 in the 5000.

Casey Mackisey (Warwick, R.I.) put his name into the top 10 in the weight throw for the second time with a toss of 13.39m.

Frankie Ray (Westport, Mass.) joined the top 10 in the high jump with a jump of 1.80m. He now holds the sixth and seventh best jumps.

Peter Thorp (Ormond Beach, Fla.) posted the third-best point total in the heptathlon in program history. He recorded 3,439 points.

Jasmine Bryant (Salem, Mass.) and Rebecca Goulet-Martel (Montreal, Quebec) both moved into the all-time top 10 in the 60m hurdles. Bryant's time of 9.98 marked just the fourth time a sub-10.00 time has been recorded. Goulet-Martel posted a time of 10.91.

MiaLynne Park (Jewett City, Conn.) continued her outstanding rookie season as she recorded the second-best time in the 400 with a time of 59.20.

Kara Walsh (Waltham, Mass.) recorded the fifth-fastest time in the 800 with a time of 2:22.52.

Annmarie Tuxbury (New Hartford, Conn.), Staci Rezendes (Ludlow, Mass.), Brittany Sarza (Uxbridge, Mass.) and Erin Svensen (Medway, Mass.) all moved into the top 10 in the 5000.

Samantha Puckett (Canterbury, N.H.) recorded a throw of 13.66m in the weight throw to move into the top 10.
