School record falls on day one of NECs

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Kristen Hayes (Menands, N.Y.) broke her own school record in the 500 to highlight a strong performance from the Bryant University track and field teams on day one of the Northeast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships Saturday in Landover, Md.

The Bulldog women are currently in sixth place with eight points, while the men are tied for seventh with five points. Sacred Heart leads the way on the women's side and Saint Francis U. holds a slim lead on the men's side.

Hayes continued to rewrite the Bulldog record books on Saturday, breaking her own record by over a second. She finished second in the prelims of the 500m with a time of 1:16.79. Hayes will compete for her second career medal on Sunday.

Top Performers:

Richard Landry (Holyoke, Mass.) scored in the 3000, finishing seventh with a time of 8:57.95.

Hayes Watson (Glastonbury, Conn.) scored for the Bulldogs in the pole vault, finishing sixth with a jump of 4.30m.

Annmarie Tuxbury (New Hartford, Conn.) matched her freshman-year finish in the 3000, placing fourth with a time of 9:59.38.

Jocelyn Davies (Yarmouth, Maine) finished eighth in the high jump with a height of 1.47m.

Nicole Dempsey (Norwell, Mass.) earned an eighth-place finish in the long jump with a distance of 5.03m.

Jonee Harrison (Dorchester, Mass.) finished eighth in the weight throw with a toss of 14.44m.

Nicholas Douglas (Shelton, Conn.) qualified for Sunday's finals in the 400 with a time of 50.95. It was the fifth-fastest time in qualifying.

Milan Duka (Belgrade, Serbia) qualified in the mile, finishing fifth with a time of 4:30.31.

MiaLynne Park (Jewett City, Conn.) will compete in the 400m final on Sunday after posting a time of 59.22 on Saturday.
